Kevin Rose claims Apple will price the 3G iPhone at $200, or £100

kevin-rose-iphone.jpg

Kevin Rose, iPhone evangelist (pictured, with his cracked handset), has predicted yet another iPhone-shaped rumour. When he last quoted his ‘sources’ he speculated about the addition of a second camera for video-calling, but now he is dead sure Apple will debut a low-end model for $200, or £100.

Sure to throw salt into the open wound of all first-gen iPhone owners, if Apple were to release a low-end version of the iPhone, or just price the new 3G model at $200, it would result in fewer sales of the iPod Touch, as customers would deem the iPhone a better choice…

Oh no! iPhone 3G could be delayed until… later. Plenty more time for rumours

I can’t really be too harsh on the iPhone rumourmongers — after all, it gives us a lot to write about particularly on Friday afternoons when there’s nothing else going on outside pubs — but it does seem that a few analysts have too much time on their hands.

Every time a company with even a tentative link to Apple says anything at all, at least one person will draw a conclusion that the iPhone is coming now, or next week, or next month, or in 2009, or never (well, OK, maybe not “never”)…

Unofficially official rumour points at June 9th for 3G iPhone (again)

I met a bloke down the pub last night who had absolutely no idea when the 3G iPhone would be officially unveiled. I know; in this day and age! Incredible really. Luckily everyone else on the planet knows exactly when it’s going to happen, just with varying degrees of authority on the issue.

Gizmodo claims to have the latest and most convincing source short of Steve Jobs himself: “someone very, very close to the launch”. Like everyone else they say June 9th, during the WWDC keynote. Glad that’s settled then…

Apple could use iPhone 3G to intro new mobile music services

Apple may use the highly anticipated launch of a iPhone 3G to expand its mobile music offerings, in a bid to hold on to its lucrative lead in online digital music.

At present, iPhone users can either use a Wi-Fi hotspot to purchase and download music from iTunes, or simply “side-load” it from iTunes running on their PC whenever they synchronise their iPhone.

A iPhone 3G’s faster cellular connection could allow users to purchase music over the air.

Orange boasts it will sell iPhone in at least ten countries, including Switzerland

In one of the shortest, most direct statements I’ve ever seen from a company – particularly where the iPhone is concerned – Orange has announced it is to begin selling Apple’s handset in at least ten countries later this year.

The lucky countries to get the iPhone via Orange are Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Switzerland, plus a number of African markets where Orange already operates…

O2 hints at iPhone 3G "in the coming weeks", points at Apple

Whether cleverly crafted PR or simply letting his guard down, O2’s CEO, Matthew Key, has told journalists that Telefonica Europe and Apple will make a joint statement about the next generation iPhone “in the coming weeks”.

Though no-one has explicitly stated the next iPhone will be 3G, pretty much everyone expects it to be, and most eyes are on Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference in early June, which certainly qualifies as “the coming weeks”…

O2 may or may not be selling 16GB iPhone, depending on when you visit their website

iphone_3g.jpg

Yesterday, O2’s web site claimed that it had no iPhones left in stock — not even the heftily-priced 16GB model.

Today, it seems, the 16GB is still available, even though “officially” it isn’t.

According to PC Advisor, O2 has “confirmed reports that the iPhone is not currently available anywhere in the UK” — that’ll be everywhere except the Apple Store, presumably, who are still merrily selling 8GB and 16GB iPhones with next-day delivery…

3G iPhone June launch date confirmed as 100% FACT by, er, AT&T cancelling its employee holiday

American exclusive iPhone supplier AT&T has given the world its iPhone Rumour of the Day today, thanks to an internal email.

The phone company has asked its employees not to book any holiday between the dates of June 15 and July 12 – presumably, as the blogosphere is now presenting as 100% confirmation, because the 3G iPhone is indeed coming in June and it’s going to be ALL HANDS TO THE DECK to cope…
