RIM gets scared by oncoming 3G iPhone, potentially delays 3G BlackBerry 8900

BlackBerry…delaying the launch of their 3G 8900 handset…because of the imminent arrival of the 3G HSDPA iPhone? Sounds strange, but that’s what the ‘sources’ have told Fortune magazine.

Of course, the official reason behind the possible delay is due to ‘call quality concerns’, but it does seem fairly obvious that pushing the launch back from June to August will help RIM determine how much of a threat the 3G iPhone will be, and also avoid having the same launch date as the Apple handset. After all, no-one likes discovering at a party they’re wearing the same outfit as their worst enemy….

Price-drop for UK confirmed by O2, iPhone now just £169

Nokia announces 6212 classic mobile with 3G and Near Field Communication

The Nokia 6212 is the Finnish company’s latest 3G handset, which also features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that can be used to interact with other nearby gadgetry.

One increasingly popular use for NFC is mobile ticketing, which is expected to go mainstream by 2011. Though SMS is also used, the Nokia 6212 will be able to take advantage of this emerging technology which can also be used for swapping data and multimedia between compatible handsets, and for a range of other functions…

iPhone 3G coming in 60 days claims Mossberg

According to eminent technology journalist Walt Mossberg, who writes for the Wall Street Journal and was one of the first people to get their hands on an iPhone for review, believes that a iPhone 3G is just sixty days (two months) away.

That coincides nicely with Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference in June and the official launch of the first third party iPhone applications…
