Europe votes "no" to internet bans for file sharers. We are saved!
The EU has just voted against the idea of banning file-sharers from using the internet, in a rare victory for the right-thinking common man.
Any possible plan to criminalise file-sharing was rejected by EU members, along with the concept of axing the web connections of those caught Bittorrenting the entire output of Hollywood overnight. It’s OK. You’re not going to get done for it any more…
Twinkle: Twitter for iPhone with Locate Me for geo-action
I can’t see the appeal of Twitter. I really don’t want people knowing exactly what I’m doing all the time, either out of shame or embarrassment that I’m spending yet more of my life just staring at a computer screen again.
But if you’re self-centred enough to think that everyone needs to know what you’re doing and thinking RIGHT NOW and ALL OF THE TIME because your life is JUST ONE BIG CRAZY PARTY OF FUN, perhaps Twinkle might be for you – it’s a very fancy new Twitter app…
Blockbuster developing set top box to "kill" Apple TV
Poor old Apple. Everyone wants to invent a “killer” to take out its products – and the next cold-blooded assassin is video rental chain Blockbuster.
Blockbuster is developing a video-streaming set-top-box to rival (KILL!) Apple’s Apple TV system, according to The News.
Rumoured to be announced some time this month…
BBC's iPlayer coming to Wii – UK ISPs sob in despair
It seems like only at 10:11am this morning that UK ISPs were moaning about the burden iPlayer is putting on their ancient copper networks – well it’s about to get WORSE, lads!
Today, the BBC has announced it’s launching a version of iPlayer for Wii, in a move that’s set to take iPlayer to “the next level” and have millions more bored people idly browsing iPlayer’s lineup and hoovering up all of the internet.
An “early version” of the iPlayer software will pop up on Wii’s Internet Channel literally today…
Now Indonesia bans YouTube
We reported news a couple of weeks back about Indonesia banning porn – now Indonesian web authorities are cracking down on YouTube as well.
There is no way we’re going to Indonesia, EVER.
The latest internet row involves protests over a Dutch film entitled Fitna, made by Geert Wilders. Fitna commits the very, very serious crime of…
First Korean astronaut proud to be endorsed by the Samsung NV series
Lucky old Yi So-yeon has just popped up into space today making her the first South Korean to hit escape velocity, courtesy of the latest Russian Soyuz mission to the International Space Station.
She’s been sponsored by the proud company of her homeland, with Samsung kitting her out with a couple of cameras for the journey. So she gets space AND free camera. If she comes round here the lucky cow will be greeted by a stony, jealous silence…
"Energy Saving Day was worth the effort" says the man who came up with the idea of Energy Saving Day
Matt Prescott, who’s Energy Saving Day actually saw a rise in energy consumption at the end of it, said it was still worth his effort as it helped raise awareness of the causes and led to energy companies simplifying their home insulation schemes. Awesome.
Even though E-Day clearly raised zero awareness with consumers, as everyone happily boiled more water than strictly necessary and left the oven on to keep the kitchen warm…
Don't buy a PlayStation3 just yet – GTA IV bundle coming on April 29
Is GTA IV the game that could shift PS3 out of its current sales and perceptual malaise? The little bundle pictured there appeared on European retailers yesterday, and could well help Sony get its PlayStation business back on track.
Sadly it’s only the 40GB model, and there’s an old-fashioned SIXAXIS in the box rather than a new DualShock3, but that’s just your standard example of how badly Sony got things with PS3. With a copy of GTA IV in the box…
Bedroom TV leads to children being stupider and less healthy
It’s the least surprising survey of the week!
A poll of American teens found that those who watched TV in their bedrooms ended up with lower grade results, plus, for some odd reason that makes no sense, they also ended up eating less fruit and vegetables when they eventually emerged for dinner.
Girls with TVs got less exercise and also drank more fizzy drinks…
Man regrets not buying more domain names in the 1990s – and sells Pizza.com for $2.6m
Don’t we all, mate. Two minutes with a web-based time machine and we’d all be millionaires.
At least Chris Clark had the foresight to register a domain name. He signed up pizza.com – a domain he’s just sold this week for a staggering $2.6m. His initial plan, when he registered the name in the dark days of 1994…
