In September last year we reported on the GoPal P4425 and said that it would be coming in November priced at £299.99

It looks as if things may have been a little delayed, as Medion has announced that the unit is now available for £249.99.

It features the GoPal 4.0 navigation software, a slim (124 x 81 x 17mm) design, street level Navteq maps for the UK and Europe, up-to-date traffic information, GPS-based speed limit warnings, and FM transmitter for playing back either the voice guidance, or MP3 files, through a vehicle’s radio system.

nüvifone: Garmin's first mobile phone with web browser and navigation

garmin_nuviphone_1.jpgGarmin has announced that it’s launching its first mobile phone. The nüvifone is a handset which incorporates a web browser and a personal satellite navigation system.

Garmin are certainly no stranger to GPS navigation devices, but what else are they bringing to this crowded market?

Well, it’s hopped on the iPhone bandwagon by offering a 3.5-inch touchscreen, though to be fair, Garmin has been making touchscreen navigation devices for some time, and very good they are too.

CES 2008: Sony takes the lid off a new set of sat-navs

We haven’t seen a lot in the way of Sat Navs here at CES yet, but rest assured they’re lurking out there in their thousands. Yesterday, Sony did spill the beans on a couple of new models heading to North America early this year. The NV-U73T and NV-U83T measure in at 4.3” and 4.8” respectively; however each is now just 0.75 inches thick, which is a pretty sensible acknowledgement of the fact that if you actually want to keep your sat nav in your possession for longer than twenty minutes, you’re going to have to carry it with you when you park your car.

The Carphone Warehouse offers own-branded navigation app for BlackBerry Curve 8130 handsets

The Carphone Warehouse stocks mobile phones other than the iPhone, remember? I know it’s hard, but cast your minds back to when they were none for stocking all manner of handsets, and not just the Apple mobile. Remember the BlackBerry Curve 8310? You better, as The Carphone Warehouse has some exciting news for potential buyers of this smartphone.

Considering a GPS system? It could get you off paying a speeding fine…

police-speed-gun.jpgGPS systems are normally regarded as more trouble than they’re worth, but how’s this for helping you settle your mind once and for all on the should-I-or-shouldn’t-I issue: they may just help you dodge speeding tickets.

At least, that’s what one 17-year old boy is hoping, who was caught in California doing 62MPH in a 45MPH zone. He’s contesting the speeding fine he received from the police, as the GPS system his parents installed…

Mio C720t GPS system features a digital camera for image navigation

mio-c720t-gps.jpgYou can always tell when we consider a product we’re writing about just a tad bit boring, as we minimise the size of the picture and shove it off to the left like so. Sadly, 450pixels-wide pictures of GPS systems just don’t work as well as iRobot ConnectRs.

Mio’s latest GPS navigation device, the C720t features a digital camera – 2-megapixels to be exact – which allow you to embed GPS coordinates into an image and help you find your way back to the location as if it were an address. Navigadget, the site where we stole this story fromare kindly linking back to, claim…

ViaMichelin updates sat-nav software to version 7, new features available across whole Navigation range

ViaMichelin has announced an upgrade to its software, bringing it to version 7, and offering more intuitive, user-friendly features, including an improved navigation menu, exclusive Michelin Guide content, key information indicators such as battery level, speed, and estimated travel times.

The New Edition range features revised graphics, easy access buttons to locate the nearest petrol stations and car parks, and an improved Point of Interest (POI) system.

Version 7 also includes additional safety-related functions, including:

* “Dangerous Bend Alert”, which takes into account vehicle speed and tightness of bend to alert the driver to approaching bends,
* “School Alert”, which is activated during school hours,
* “Roadworks Alert”, alerting motorists to damaged or unmade roads,
* “Authorised overtaking area alerts”, showing legal places to overtake,
” “Tiredness Alert” which alerts the driver every two hours (that’d get annoying),
” “Tunnel Mode” which adjusts screen brightness and simulates the route when GPS reception is lost.
