Two MSI X-Slim laptops announced

These little Apple-aping beauties are the X340 and X600, from MSI. They’re part of the X-Slim range, which also includes the X320, which we spotted at CES.

The smaller X340 has a 13.4″ screen, with the X600 going up to a more standard 15.6″. They both offer HDMI-out as well as VGA and pack Centrino 2 processors. The X340 is suggested to cost somewhere between $699 and $999, which is a bit like saying London is between Spain and Scotland.

No release date, or UK prices yet. Shame, because these do look rather nice, even if they’re a tad on the derivative side.

Dell to launch 'Adamo' MacBook Air competitor?

dell-adamo.jpg

Mac fanboys aside, most of us realised that the Macbook Air was a crystallisation of everything that Apple does – it was an archetypal Apple product. The ridiculous price, the underperforming components, and lack of features, but OH SO PRETTY! That’s why I’m a little nervous that Dell are trying to emulate the machine.

The New York Times, after noticing a few ‘Adamo’ trademark filings, did some digging on Google and eventually confronted Dell’s vice president in charge of consumer sales and marketing, Michael Tatelman, asking him if there was an Air-like product in store. His response? Click over the jump to find out.

Prototype Macbook Air from mid-2007 surfaces on eBay

macbook-air-black.jpg

I can’t make up my mind whether Macrumours forum member Brett33 is lucky or not. He bought an ‘as is’ Macbook Air off eBay, and it showed up with a black aluminium base and no ‘Macbook Air’ written on the bezel of the display. On further investigation, Brett discovered that it was a very early prototype of the device, built in May 2007.

The laptop was running a build of OS X 10.5, and the device was produced six months before it was announced to the public. It’s rather unusual to see one of these prototypes in the wild, given how secretive Apple is as a company. If I were Brett, I’d stick it straight back on eBay at double the price.

Apple beefs up MacBook Air with more storage and better graphics, but it's still thin

macbook_air_october_2008.jpg

The original MacBook Air launched just over eight months ago, claiming to be the thinnest and lightest laptop available.

It came with either 80GB hard drive or 64GB solid state drive (at a price), 2GB of RAM, 13.3-inch widescreen display, and Core 2 Duo processor.

Today, Apple unveiled its successor, offering more memory and beefier graphics for around the same price. It’s still bank-account-drainingly-expensive, but chic always costs…

HP hopes Voodoo magic will defeat MacBook Air – world's new thinnest laptop

Voodoo.jpg

While most of the computing world is dedicating itself to creating the smallest possible laptops from baked bean cans and bits of string, it’s easy to forget that there is still a market for full sized notebooks that look good and weigh next to nothing. Hewlett Packard hasn’t though; it has just launched the Voodoo Envy 133.

At 0.7-inches thick and sporting a 13.3″ display, there obviously one target in mind: the MacBook air. The Envy has a price tag of $2099, which also puts it in the same ballpark as the Air, and it offers the same choice of 1.6 or 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo CPUs and 64GB SSD or 80GB HDDs. The Air, however, is just a shade thicker, at 0.76-inches thick…

HP employee receives MacBook Air for birthday, cuts birthday cake with it

The MacBook Air has many uses, however using it to cut a birthday cake? Never thought of that one!

A CTO over at HP received a nasty birthday present in the form of an Air, so what does he do? Tests just how razor-sharp the laptop is, on his chocolate cake. “It’s so damn sharp, it did a fine job”, the birthday boy Rahul Sood claimed. There you have it – a glowing recommendation for the MacBook Air, from an HP employee…
