Forget running it on an iPhone, Samsung hopes to offer Second Life on mobiles

samsung-second-life-2.jpg

You might be able to get Second Life to run on your iPhone, but due to various problems involved in that process, I’d suggest you maybe flog your iBrick on eBay, go buy a Samsung. If you’re that obsessive about Second Life, which I bet you are if you’ve read this far.

They’re showing a demo over at CTIA this week, and hope to release the technology by the end of the year, along with an integrated blogging platform and easy communication between you and your Second Life elves/fairies/warlords through text and voicemail. An interesting idea, but chances are…

33% of iPhone owners have a second mobile as well, according to studies in the US

lots-of-iphones.jpg

Whilst I know a lot of iPhone owners have second, or even third mobile, I didn’t think the percentage in the US would be as high as 33%. Isn’t the iPhone meant to be the saviour of the mobile communications world? Why use two?

A US agency, Rubicon Consulting, has published its findings about iPhone users, which include no-brainers like 75% of users do more mobile browsing because of the phone and that the most-used data function is reading emails.

Rather surprisingly, 40% of the users…

nokia-7700-prism.jpg

Nokia has announced four new handsets which will be retailing for between €50-90, but before you go reaching for your MasterCard, I better let you know they’re aimed at emerging markets such as Africa.

The above phone, whilst looking suspiciously like the 7500 and 7900, has ‘external light effects’, themes, wallpapers, MP3 ringtones, voice recorder and hands-free speaker. Out in Q3 of 2008, it should be €50 plus tax….

Yamaha announces the YSP600 surround sound bar

yamaha-YSP600.jpg

In terms of speakers, this £499 job from Yamaha will be suffice for the average person who owns a telly and a CD player, enthusiasts should probably look here, here and here instead.

Still, the YSP600 has a tidy amount of features, and can be hidden away under your TV, due to its small stature. With 1080p support and two HDMI-in sockets, your Blu-ray or HD-DVD player will love you. The integrated amplifier is pumping…

AT&T first retailer to purchase Microsoft Surface tables, in store April 17th

at&t-surface.jpg

Ballmer may be wanting to sell us a Surface this year, however it looks certain that the US mobile carrier AT&T will have the privilege of stocking the touch-table in branches in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta and San Antonio by April the 17th of this year.

When Microsoft first announced it in May of last year, it was promised to be in T-Mobile, Starwood Hotels, Harrah’s casinos and IGN branches by winter. Judging by the AT&T announcement, I’m guessing the deal with rival network T-Mobile didn’t follow through.

Customers in the four aforementioned branches of AT&T will be able to learn more about the available handsets…

YouTube Hits: Popjunkie TV

Admittedly we here at Shiny Media have a vested interest in Popjunkie TV, with the weekly music episodes filmed in our office, and the presenters Sean and Victoria being longtime friends of our company.

Nonetheless, they’re being billed as the ‘indie Johnny and Denise’, so it’s worth a look, to clue-up on the last week’s worth of musical goodies…

Is RecommendBox another social bookmarker?

logo-recommend-box.png

“Not another social bookmarker!”, I can hear you cry out in anger. Ahh yes, technically speaking it is…but RecommendBox is different, in that you ‘recommend’ a link to your friend list, and not just ‘review’ it and give your opinion on whether it’s good or not.

Sound confusing? Well, it’s essentially still a social bookmarker – a UK one at that – but with your recommendations remaining private, it’s less pimptastic and more worthy links being promoted. Plus, the site has Amazon and Google Local APIs integrated, so when you…

Poll: Which technology company would you choose to sit next to at a dinner party?

Hidden within the Brandchannel survey that Daniel wrote about below is a rather amusing story about the polled people wanting to sit next to Apple, Virgin, Google, Coca-Cola and Nike at a dinner party, if push came to shove. Of the 3.7% of people who chose Google, one commented “I’d like to get to know them better, or at least hop into bed with them for a quickie!”.

Of the 14.3% who chose Apple, one claimed it was “because I’m sure they’d develop an easier and simpler way to throw a dinner party”. So, I present you with the below poll – which tech giant would you choose to sit next to at a dinner party?

The LiMo Foundation announces Platform Release 1, available at end of 2008

limo-foundation-2.jpg

We haven’t heard much about the LiMo Foundation in recent weeks, it appears the Mobile World Congress sparked a few stories regarding Linux-based software platform, then all went quiet on the western front.

Until today, when news reached me claiming the Foundation has announced the LiMo Platform Release 1, which has been tested in handsets available commercially. It will be available later this…
