Tonium launches Pacemaker DJ mix portal
Sorry, the elusive Pacemaker portable DJ gadget isn’t here yet, but an online DJ portal is. Coupled with a free PC/Mac music / mixing editor, the web site allows you to create your own mixes and share them with the community.
Tonium has apparently done deals with a number of international music publishing houses, so the resulting service should be fairly watertight legally…
Trent Reznor expands on his internet prowess, calls upon UGC for Ghosts music videos
Not a week after releasing his album Ghosts I-IV for free download, Trent Reznor is at it again, giving fans the opportunity to create music videos for the album’s 36 songs.
Via a video on YouTube, Reznor has asked his fans to create videos for the instrumental songs, which will be uploaded to YouTube, and featured in a take-over similar to last week’s Sigur Ros day. Reznor explained “to expand the idea of the “Ghosts” project, we’re inviting anyone and everyone to create visuals to accompany the album’s music. In a few months, we’ll be gathering the entries we feel are particularly exceptional and highlighting them. There are…

Notice your YouTube streams are finally a higher quality? It's official…
It snuck onto the site very quietly last week, but finally, we’re able to watch YouTube videos in a higher quality than those awful disjointed clips we’ve grown accustomed to.
Posted on the YouTube blog last week, they said this of the move – “You may have noticed that we’re now giving you the option of watching some YouTube videos in higher quality. We’re making these streams available on certain videos, based upon the source file uploaded to us, and over time you’ll find a greater percentage of the library is available to view in higher quality. This feature applies to all eligible videos uploaded from the YouTube community, and is not restricted to partner content, so everyone can enjoy this upgrade.”
They then directed their users…

Social networking sites are definitely the hot virtual property of the moment, with news today that AOL is buying Bebo for a cool $850m.

YouTube expands, wants to be… Everywhere
Seems like YouTube is pretty much everywhere as it is — not that we’re complaining, Shiny Media sites use it a fair bit. However, that’s not enough for the Google-owned video site.
YouTube want to be even more open and accessible, making it easier for users to integrate both the video and community elements into other web sites. Imagine, now you can publish both the lousy video and the offensive comments on your very own site…

ITV gets social with launch of Bebo profile
Following in the footsteps of the BBC (though I’m sure they’d deny that), ITV has announced that it is to launch a profile on popular social networking site Bebo. This will contain a number of media channels promoting a range of content from ITV2, considered to be the best “fit” for Bebo users. The first programme to grace the network will be “Gossip Girl”…
Sussex University replicates itself in Second Life
It’s all been a bit quiet on Second Life news recently (you know how much we love Facebook these days). The rush of companies and organisations setting up shop in the virtual world may have died down, but Sussex University has decided to build a presence there.
The “island” looks like the real campus, and visitors can go to the library, attend online seminars, or visit the Students’ Union…
