NEC to bring 3D TV to your mobile phone
NEC is to demo some concept tech over in the heart of Barcelona at MWC in just over a week’s time. Their brainwave is to put 3D technology onto the 3.1″ screen of a mobile phone.
It’s a prototype which they’ve been working on since the beginning of last year and, naturally, it doesn’t require glasses to view. No word as whether…
Kangaroo slaughtered by Competition Commission – joint BBC, ITV and C4 online TV service axed
Project Kangaroo, the planned online telly service that would’ve combined BBC, ITV and Channel 4 content on one handy site for your viewing pleasure, has been binned.
The EVIL denier of free TV is the Competition Commission which has, incredibly, decided that it would be unfair of the Beeb, ITV and C4 to team up as this might damage rival commercial companies that operating in the same “space” – despite the fact that the rival commercial companies routinely allow their users…
SHINY PREVIEW: Philips 21:9 Cinema Super-Widescreen LCD
News of the Philips Cinema 21:9 TV splatted out onto the web about two weeks earlier than the Dutch masters would have liked, so the event yesterday afternoon was always going to be a little underwhelming. All the same, we sent Susi down to brave the canapes and bring us back what few extra details Philips were prepared to share, as well as a little footage of the sucker too.
Super-thin Sony Bravia ZX1 ready for sale – Bravia EX1 & 200Hz Z4500 on shelf too
Now that I’ve booked my flights, hotel, planned my shopping and rid myself of the anger of the £3,489 Sony XEL-1 OLED from this morning, I can tell you about their other Bravia TVs that’ll be hitting the EU shortly.
Sony Bravia ZX1
First up is the super thin 9.9mm LCD Bravia ZX1 we saw at IFA in August last year. It’s the one pictured above.
As promised it’s a 40″ panel with a frame rate of…
Sony XEL-1 OLED TV available in UK but cheaper to fly to America to get it
So after about a year or waiting, teasing and generally proving that theirs is the best, the Sony XEL-1 razor thin 11″ piece of OLED TV loveliness has finally hit the shops here in the UK.
The 3mm thick panel can be yours for just £3,489. One, two, three, hurray! Thanks Sony. Thanks for charging us in Europe well over the odds for something you can pick up in the States for $2,499 (£1754).
In fact, it would be cheaper to fly to New York City…
Crunch Watch: Philips announces 6,000 job cut
Philips is the latest casualty in ongoing global meltdown or their employees are, more specifically, as the European tech giant announced 6,000 redundancies today.
The cuts come after the Dutch company released figures of their first quarterly loss in six years seeing profits sink to €1.47 billion in the red. That sounds like the kind of sum that could end all things Royal Philips Electronics but then given that this time last year they made about the same amount…
Philips to launch Cinema 21:9 LCD super-widescreen TV
I always thought the point of buying a widescreen TV was to get rid of those black bars at the top and bottom of films until I bought one and someone explained to me that 16:9 was not the full cinema aspect ratio. Thankfully, Philips is now here to stop any such disappointment with the announcement of their Cinema 21:9 LCD TVs.
The 56″ screens will be available…
Sci-fi world devastated – Patrick McGoohan and Ricardo Montalban pass away
Patrick McGoohan, made famous by his role in bewildering 60s sci-fi escapology show The Prisoner, died on Tuesday, aged 80.
He was great in Danger Man, made his name in The Prisoner, then continued to deliver entertainment beyond the call of duty by directing and starring in numerous episodes of Columbo between the 1970s and his last directorial appearance in 2000…
Glacier Media Systems promising "3D porn" to revolt you in more ways than previously imaginable
Now, personally speaking, I’m quite a fan and active user of a wide and varied range of pornography – but I’m not so sure there’s a need to watch it in 3D.
I don’t like the idea of a man’s belly and scrotum protruding into my lounge as he services the needs of a dishevelled-looking East European lady. That crosses a boundary. I want to feel emotionally detached. I don’t want a starring role. I’d never be able to perform under that sort of pressure.
But that’s precisely the sort of in-your-face and in-your-living-room approach to movie-watching being taken by Glacier Media Systems, with its Glacier Iceberg 3D entertainment system promising to bring your existing movie collection into 3D somehow, should you have…
