Wii-style Tomb Raider and Sonic on your mobile

Sony has further advanced its mobile gaming system, with a Bluetooth enabled handset for more interactive gaming. The small, hand-held Zeemote JS1 features a joystick, effectively meaning an old-school analogue controller, which is always welcome.

The Zeemote JS1 will come bundled with Sony’s W760i phone, pre-loaded with two games, and a further 16 will be available to download from the Sony website. Since the two basic games, however, are both all-time classics in Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog, most users shouldn’t need to venture into the additional games too much to satisfy their gaming needs.

Sony Ericsson could use mobile phone camera as motion controller for gaming

Proof there’s more than one way to skin a cat, with news that Sony Ericsson could utilise the cameras on its mobile phones to act as an iPhone-like motion sensor, which could then be used to control games.

They’ve partnered with GestureTek, a Californian company, to add software to their handsets from September, and it’s possible that existing phones could also use the technology provided their software can be updated.

AOL to launch free mobile gaming portal

Mobile gaming is seen as huge source of potential revenue – afterall, there isn’t exactly a shortage of mobile phones or casual gamers out there – but so far few companies have really been able to capitalise on it.
