Apple announces whole host of new MacBooks – 13", 15" & 17" too
With all the attention seemingly being put upon an impending announcement regarding new iPhone specs, one could be forgiven for overlooking any other announcements Apple might be making at today’s WWDC.
But Phil Schiller kicked off the show by announcing some major changes to the MacBook Pro range.
First up, is a new 15-inch MacBook Pro, complete with SD memory card slot. Schiller stated that the battery life should be up to seven hours and they would last for 1,000 charges – five years of life for a typical user.
Three versions of the 15-inch model were announced: $1699 for a 2.53GHz, 250GB version, $1999 for a 2.66GHz, 320GB version and $1699 for a 2.8GHz, 500GB one. All of these come with 4GB of DDR3 RAM.
Next up was a new 17-inch version. Seven hours of battery life, like the 15-inch and this one also includes an ExpressCard slot as well as the SD one. $2499 for the same spec as the top end 15-inch one.
13-inch models are also joining the MacBook Pro lineup. Two versions for this particular size – $1199 for a 2.26GHz, 160GB, with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and $1199 for a 2.53GHz, 250GB, again with 2GB of DDR3 RAM. Both also have the new SD card slot.
Finally, Schiller announced an update to the MacBook Air. Apparently the most environmentally friendly laptops they’ve ever made. Big price cuts this time – $1499 for a 1.86GHz, 120GB, with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and $1799 for a 2.13GHz, 128GB (SSD), also with 2GB of DDR3 RAM.
Phew, that’s a whole lot of laptops. We’ll give you the UK prices as soon as we get them.

Concept Mac "triBook": fold out wings for extra screen space
Portable computers are great but they’re not known for their screen real estate. The concept “triBook” based on an Apple notebook computer is a pretty impressive idea which solves that.

Apple unveils new 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro
Apple has taken the wraps off two new notebooks: the 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro.
The 13-inch MacBook features a precision aluminium unibody enclosure — in other words, it’s constructed from a single solid piece of metal and is much thinner than its predecessor. Not as thin as the MacBook Air, of course, but not bad at 2.41cms.
The ultra-thin 13.3-inch LED backlit display is bright, yet the whole unit is thinner than its outdated LCD relative. It can display up to 1,280 x 800 resolution…

A few more pictures have surfaced overnight of a next-generation MacBook Pro, complete with shiny glassy screen and a black bezel. ROUNDUP: New Apple Macbook rumours
On Wednesday Tech Digest has been cordially invited to an Apple event called “The spotlight turns to notebooks”. There have been plenty of rumours swirling around regarding a cheap, netbook-y, Macbook arriving, but over the weekend a few more details surfaced about what we’re likely to see.

Future MacBook Pros may come with in-built Blu-ray drive
Those rumourmongers over at AppleInsider suggest that built-in Blu-ray drives could soon be a reality for Apple’s MacBook Pro notebook computers. An “insider” reckons that Apple are in talks with Sony to provide the hardware.
If reports are true, quality issues were to blame for delaying a Blu-ray launch with the latest line of MacBook Pros.
We’ve been waiting a long time for Apple to take an active decision on including high definition drives as a standard or an option on its range of computers. Unless the company chooses to ignore HD altogether for now, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that Blu-ray drives will be added soon enough.
Apple intros new MacBooks, and MacBook Pros with multi-touch trackpad and latest Core 2 Duo processors
Apple has today unveiled six new notebook machines — three MacBooks and three MacBook Pros — all featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and now including the same multi-touch trackpad as found on the MacBook Air.
With speeds of up to 2.5GHz, the new Core 2 Duo chips pack a decent punch. Even the entry level MacBook sports a 2.1GHz processor.
Only the MacBook Pros feature the new multi-touch trackpad, with the MacBooks continuing with the standard scrolling trackpad. The new trackpad gives instant access to features such as pinch, rotate and swipe — great for handling photos.
New (rumoured) Intel processor for MacBook Pro and Dell notebooks promises more rivalry between the formats!
Processor nutters, rear your pasty white little faces and check out this nugget of truth rumour. Apple and Dell (who Microsoft smooches with most of all), are apparently releasing laptops containing Intel’s glorious new 45-nanonmetre Penryn processor – at the same time!
Someone needs to synch up their Google Calenders, tsk.
