European Space Agency looking for astronauts! Sign up today! The dream lives on!

ESA-astronaut-recruit-uk-space-launch.jpg

If you fancy being, say, THE FIRST MAN ON MARS, you really ought to head down to the Science Museum today, where the European Space Agency is launching its recruiting programme for the next generation of astronauts.

Anyone can apply, although, ideally, you’ll have a degree in science or medicine, be between 27 and 37 and in some sort of decent physical condition. An ability to speak Russian is also an advantage. And we’d imagine smokers are frowned upon…

The One & Co multimedia coffee table slash media player

Bored of your coffee table? Is its stained exterior and pitted surface embarrassing to you when friends or the social services come round? Then you should UPGRADE. You should GO DIGITAL with this, the quite astonishingly insane One & Co digital jukebox coffee table!

Here’s a picture of it. It’s clearly modelled on the Star Trek: The Next Generation bridge design, with its sleek curves and sturdy central column. “Play that awesome Johnny Cash album again, Ensign Crusher…”

And that’s it. It is, when you think about it, a rather awesome idea. You spend your time in the lounge, so why not have a coffee table…

VIDEO: My Video Life, by Gary Cutlack, aged 34

Hello everyone. Don’t panic – this isn’t another battery review! Instead, this is my entry for the Shiny/Cisco My Video Life competition.

The idea is you make a video about what video means to you, whack it on YouTube, then someone gets the honour of being described as A WINNER. Imagine that. Imagine the feeling of being a winner! Here’s my attempt at winning. I doubt I will be feeling the feeling.

You should enter. Any video will do, even just one of you watching telly while eating sausages filmed on a mobile phone. if that’s what video really means to you, there’s no arguing with that. There’s £500 worth of stuff…

3G iPhone June launch date confirmed as 100% FACT by, er, AT&T cancelling its employee holiday

3g-iphone-coming-june-fo-sho.jpg

American exclusive iPhone supplier AT&T has given the world its iPhone Rumour of the Day today, thanks to an internal email.

The phone company has asked its employees not to book any holiday between the dates of June 15 and July 12 – presumably, as the blogosphere is now presenting as 100% confirmation, because the 3G iPhone is indeed coming in June and it’s going to be ALL HANDS TO THE DECK to cope…

MDA Compact IV. Sort of exclusive to T-Mobile, running Windows Mobile 6.1 – and out before 3G iPhone?

The MDA Compact IV is only “sort of” exclusive to T-Mobile, as the Compact IV is a rebadged version of the HTC Diamond 3G touchy phone. Which is coming out on Orange this June. Confused? Yes. The hot weather’s not helping, either.

The big features of the MDA Compact are its HSDPA technology for fast browsing and use as a modem, Windows Mobile 6.1 for doing BUSINESS, 4GB of internal storage, a 3.1megapixel camera plus, as is most fashionable these days, a touchable screen. Here’s a big photo of it, as it’s clearly quite a very special phone if there’s been such a flurry of licensing and rebranding surrounding it:

The fully 3G MDA Compact IV will be on sale through…

NBC took its shows off iTunes – now they've popped up on Zune

nbc-shows-on-zune-marketplace.jpg

How do you like them apples, Apple?

After bravely turning its back on Apple’s iTunes thanks to rows over money and royalties and charges and the like, American telly juggernaut NBC has started releasing its shows via the… Zune shop. What’s the Zune shop called? Anyone have a clue? MicroStore? ZuneTunes?

Whatever the Zune shop is called, it now hosts more than 800 NBC-owned ‘properties’, with shows coming from the likes of Comedy Central…

Nokia's "highest production value" N-Gage game Reset Generation will be given away for free on PC

nokia-n-gage-reset-generation-ugc-pc-game.jpg

OK, so Nokia’s making a game called Reset Generation for its N-Gage platform. It used to be called “Project White Rock”, but now it has a proper name. And very nice it sounds too. Well done to all at the focus group.

Reset Generation is going to be the big-budget, blockbuster game that has everyone FLOCKING to N-Gage, apparently – but it’s also going to be given away for free on PC. It sounds like Nokia has gone INSANE.

This confusing and topsy-turvy distribution system…

Japanese man manages 780,000 porn hits in nine months – earns himself a demotion

japanese-man-porn-world-record.jpg

A keen pornography fan in Japan managed to rack up a sensational 780,000 hits for various types of porn in the space of nine months – while he was at work.

The unnamed – but heroic and hard-working – Kinokawa city government employee was demoted when officials discovered his habit and examined the data logs, discovering the 780,000 offending hits. We’re not sure what definition of “hits” they’re using here, but he still clearly…

Japan gets three new Eee PC colours – 4G XP model now comes in pink, green and blue

Of course, it’s not just “pink,” “green” and “blue”, though. That would be boring. That would be too easy, too predictable. They need SPECIAL NAMES! The new Japanese XP-packing Eee comes in “Sky Blue,” “Rush Green” and “Brush Pink.”

Here is the Sky Blue variant. It’s a little flash of summer to brighten up your afternoon. I have drawn in the Sun myself, for extra summer realism.

asus-eee-pc-4g-sky-blue.jpg

Sky Blue we understand. It’s blue. Like the sky is occasionally. Rush Green we also sort of understand, as, presumably, Asus means it’s as green as some rushes.

But Brush Pink? The phrase “as pink as a brush” doesn’t ring any bells…
