The late bank holiday has done Canon some good, for it’s now officially released details of the new EOS 50D, following last week’s faux pas.

So, to business. The 50D features a newly-designed CMOS sensor delivering a beefy 15.1 megapixels, and promising crisp, ultra-detailed, low-noise images as a result.

Most features you’d expect from a Canon DSLR are here, including a range of auto-focus and metering modes, 30-1/8000 second shutter speed, various white balance settings, 15 shooting modes including fully automatic, creative auto, and fully manual, and ISO from 100-3200, expandable to 12800…

Casio has announced three additions to its EXILIM range of compact digital cameras, all boasting high megapixel counts and a range of advanced processing designed to make your photographs more acceptable.

All models come with advanced face recognition technology that, as well as handling faces in general (up to ten in any one shot), will pay particular attention to faces pre-registered by the user, giving those priority for correct focus and exposure. No more blurry shots of your best mate standing in front of a perfectly exposed stranger.

I know it’s not all about the megapixels, blah blah, but when a 56 megapixel monster like the Leaf AFi 10 comes along — and particularly as it also sports best-of-class Schneider lenses — I can’t help but be impressed.

As if you needed telling, this is no consumer camera — unless you’re very rich, of course. This is a True Wide Frame 56x36mm medium-format camera using Leaf’s new “Verto” technology which enables the sensor to be rotated internally, giving added control over landscape and portrait photography…

Flee digital camera: Take shots on the fly

The sheer brilliance of this concept design by Turkish designer Hagan Bogazpinar left me speechless. Flee is a bluetooth enabled digital camera that you can toss in the air. While airborne it will take shots at a cutomized time interval and send them back to your mobile phone via bluetooth. Just imagine the shots you’d get if you played catch with this!
