Casio has announced three additions to its EXILIM range of compact digital cameras, all boasting high megapixel counts and a range of advanced processing designed to make your photographs more acceptable.

All models come with advanced face recognition technology that, as well as handling faces in general (up to ten in any one shot), will pay particular attention to faces pre-registered by the user, giving those priority for correct focus and exposure. No more blurry shots of your best mate standing in front of a perfectly exposed stranger.

The 10.1 megapixel EX-Z300 can capture movies in 720p high definition at 30 frames per second, and both it and the 9.1 megapixel EX-Z250 feature EXILIM Engine 3.0, an image processing module that offers high-speed image processing. Thanks to this wonderful technology, there’s a “Makeup” mode that can smooth skin tone and soften facial shadows, as well as handheld night scene mode which allows users to shoot in low light without the need for a tripod, and advanced lighting functions.

Additionally, the EX-Z300 can take a series of photos akin to multi-exposure, combining them in a single frame.

Both cameras feature a 4x optical zoom, 28mm wide angle lens.

The 9.1 megapixel EX-Z85 seems to cater for those who like to customise the photo-taking experience itself. It’s possible to assign pictures in the viewfinder, such as a heart or a butterfly, which only display clearly when the shot is in focus. Additionally, users can choose the colour of the menu screens.

More importantly for the photos themselves, there’s blur detection technology for taking a photo when hand shake or subject movement stops, without having to press the shutter button.

The camera also takes widescreen movies and features an “Easy Mode” with just three settings – flash, self timer, and image size.

Available in silver, black, vivid pink, pink, blue, green, brown and orange.

All three cameras will be available some time in September. The EX-Z300 has a RRP of £229.99, the EX-Z250 of £199.99, and the EX-Z85, £149.99.
