While most of the computing world is dedicating itself to creating the smallest possible laptops from baked bean cans and bits of string, it’s easy to forget that there is still a market for full sized notebooks that look good and weigh next to nothing. Hewlett Packard hasn’t though; it has just launched the Voodoo Envy 133.
At 0.7-inches thick and sporting a 13.3″ display, there obviously one target in mind: the MacBook air. The Envy has a price tag of $2099, which also puts it in the same ballpark as the Air, and it offers the same choice of 1.6 or 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo CPUs and 64GB SSD or 80GB HDDs. HP adds dv4, dv5 and dv7 notebooks to Pavilion range, the former with integrated 3G
We didn’t get any new MacBooks this week, however HP has announced plans to add three new consumer notebooks to its Pavilion range – the dv4 (measuring 14.1″), dv5 (measuring 15.4″), and dv7 (17″) which are all pictured above.
The three models all feature AMD or Intel Centrino 2 processors, plus high-speed eSATA interfaces. Most notable however, is the dv4 which has integrated WWAN for 3G internet connectivity, the first consumer laptop to do so, with the HDD starting at 120GB. Low-cost PC popularity forces Microsoft to revise its plans for Windows XP again
At the ongoing Computex tech show in Taipei, Microsoft has announced its decision to further extend the life of the Windows XP operating system for new low-cost desktop PCs. PC manufacturers will be allowed to keep selling XP – Home, not Professional – until 2010.
