Price-drop for UK confirmed by O2, iPhone now just £169

The tech rumour which crept up behind us, tapped us on the back and startled us into thinking ‘oooh…my bank balance is looking good this month, perhaps I should indulge?’ has now been confirmed.

O2 rolls out the Bluebook online data back-up service and blogging platform

O2 has removed the need to buy gadgets such as ThinkGeek’s sim card back-up tool, today announcing the (re)launch of Bluebook – an online service that backs up customers’ contacts, texts and picture messages. They first demo-ed this late 2006.

It’s free, and automatic, with customers asked simply to register for the service. Once saved, the texts and picture messages can be edited or even saved in online albums, which you can then share with friends or publish on your O2 Bluebook blogging platform, Blueblog. Adding to that, photos…

iPhone coming to Ireland on Friday 14th March — NO UNLIMITED DATA PLAN

O2 Ireland has announced that the iPhone will finally come to the Republic on Friday, 14th March. The 8GB version will cost €399 and the 16GB version €499.

There are three tariffs available — €45, €65, and €100 per month — but GET THIS. There will be NO unlimited data plan available. A monthly 1GB cap on data will be imposed, with excess data use charged at 2c per MB. Ouch!

3 and O2 launch EyeVibe mobile user generated video site

eyevibe_logo.jpg3 and O2 have announced that they’ve joined forces, bringing their two mobile video services (SeeMeTV and LookAtMe!) together to create what they claim is the UK’s largest open access mobile video community — EyeVibe.

Users are being encouraged to submit quality videos by enticing them with a cut of the download fee (10p per video) each time their content is accessed. Mobile users on flat rate data plans only have to pay for the clip, not any data charges, while other users will have to fork out additional data charges.
