iPhone Skateboard

I don’t generally like to use really big images on TD. I’ll always give you the option of bigging them up from thumbnails but I don’t usually like them to dominate the entire page. Probably because I’m a writer and not a photographer.

Anyway, today I give the artist the main stage because this iPhone skate deck…

The Zoom Bicycles Jet Stealth 80cc Bicycle Engine Kit, for weak-limbed environmentalists

zoom-bicycles-mounted-moped-engine-kit.jpg

If you’ve ever been caught out on your bike, riding into the wind, up a slight hill, almost in tears at how hard it is and WISHING with all your might that someone would invent a little engine to help you out at times like this, you’re in luck – here’s a little engine to help you out at times like that.

The Zoom Bicycles DIY engine enhancement kits come with anything from a 49cc to an 80cc engine to pop onto your bike yourself and eliminate all that tiresome pedalling, but the catch is the weight – the motor adds around 19lbs (8.6 kilos to you Euro-people) to the weight of your bike…

Pioneer's DEH-P4100SD – a car stereo with an SD card slot to aid choice and/or piracy

pioneer-deh-p4100sd-car-stereo.jpg

Pioneer’s just revealed its latest in-car entertainment solution for the businessman trapped in a snow drift with no mobile signal or radio reception – the DEH-P4100SD.

The big selling point of the P4100 is its SD Card slot, allowing you to do away with the middle man (DJ, CD writer, iPod, cable) and load up your MP3 collection to a cheapo SD Card and whack it straight into your car via the slot hidden behind the removable faceplate.

Pioneer’s “rotary commander” dial-slash-joystick lets you navigate through tunes while still managing to pay some attention to the road, while there’s also full support for iPod playlists if you’re the sort of person who likes to spend your spare time painstakingly sorting all your music into very tightly-organised playlists…

ECCENTRIC BRITISH HEROES: Neil Laughton driving/flying his Skycar from London to Timbuktu

neil-laughton-skycar.jpg

Adventurer and after-dinner speaker Neil Laughton’s customised dune buggy can fly. So he’s going to fly it – taking off from London this Wednesday, and landing/rolling up in Timbuktu approximately 42 days later.

The buggy comes with a detachable ParaWing (parachute/aerofoil thing) and has a fan on the back of it, allowing it to take off into the sky when it hits 45mph – and it can then cruise at 70mph at a possible and terrifying maximum altitude of 15,000 feet…

Grey Warships of Death preparing for Blue Screen of Death – UK Navy fleet updates to Windows 2000 and XP

uk-navy-windows-xp-2000-frigates.jpg

The UK’s warship fleet is getting itself an update, with versions of worst-windows-ever Windows 2000 and best-windows-ever XP rolling out across the fleet.

First to replace its ageing custom software with the “new” Windows operating systems is the HMS Montrose, which will soon enter a refitting phase where its old kit will be replaced by standard PCs.

The Type 23 frigates, which make up the bulk of our sea-faring death machines, are expected to gradually switch over to Windows machines as and when they’re due for a servicing, and, as ever, it’s all about reducing costs. Navy man Commodore Graham Peach said the Windows-based warships “will enable us to provide…

The Fusion Electronics CA-IP500 car stereo with unique iPod deep-throating dock action

Leaving your iPod sitting there in the ashtray while you pop into ASDA to see if they’re making jam or custard doughnuts in the bakery today is a definite no-no – so keep it safely hidden from view by ramming it right down into the stomach of the Fusion Electronics CA-IP500 music player.

The deep unit swallows an entire iPod, just like an old cassette-based car player, leaving it hidden from the view of opportunist thieves who want your iPod player for its potential eBay resale value and not your artistic tastes in music.

It’s slightly unsettling tearing the poor thing’s face off and ramming an iPod down its throat, but as long as you don’t get too emotionally…

GM to auction off their stunning Heritage collection

GM-heritage.jpg

I don’t own a car. I quite like driving, but I don’t own one. They’re crazy expensive to run, I live in London and, as gadgets go, I’m really excited by them – at least, I thought not, until now.

You see, I’ve realised why they don’t interest me or why I thought they didn’t. It’s because on the whole, they’re rubbish. The kinds we see every day, whether ferrying kids to school or stuffed to the gunnels with rudes pumping bad music, are pretty dull, reliable, boxy affairs – very little to get excited about.

However, tell me that struggling US car giant General Motors is having an auction of their Heritage collection…

Unsentimental Alton Towers coldly flogs off chunks of its Corkscrew rollercoaster on eBay

alton-towers-corkscrew-rollercoaster-ebay.JPG

A reader who calls himself “Stretchy” has just alerted us to this awesome bit of history-making eBay activity – Alton Towers is flogging off the front car of its long-running Corkscrew rollercoaster.

The description over at Alton Towers’ site says you’re getting “The most unique Christmas present EVER!” if, by some incredible longshot, you happen to have a friend or family member who’s just asked for a bit of a closed rollercoaster as one of their Christmas presents this year…
