My, how we love a good GPhone rumour, and they’re certainly flying thick and fast of late.
The latest cat to be let out of the bag in regards to the rumoured Google phone is that the big G will be announcing the launch mid November. That’s less than a month, folks, until we can finally see Google’s answer…
Battle of the purple mobiles: Girls Aloud with the Samsung F210 and Sugababes with the Sony Ericsson K770i
You may’ve heard there’s a battle going on over here in the UK. Forget the rugby, the format wars, and the oft-rumoured general election, it’s something far more important. Purple mobile phones. Girl bands. Oh yes, our country has a civil war going on, and it sure is…pretty?
Last Wednesday one of the country’s largest girl bands, Girls Aloud, launched the Samsung F210 Purple, a model exclusive to Phones 4 U. Now this Wednesday, just seven days later, will see their biggest rival girl-band, Sugababes, launch the K770i Purple with Sony Ericsson. Has London been gripped with Purple Power, now that Prince has packed his bags and left the country after 21 sell-out shows?
It sure will be interesting to see which purple phone will conquer the market here in Britain, especially with the constant rumours about rivalry between the two bands. Take a look under the jump, where I pit the K770i against the F210. Who will win this diva-studded war? Only the specs will say…
3 launches HSDPA 'Turbo' mobile broadband service
3 has launched its new Mobile Broadband service, offering HSDPA speeds of up to 2.8Mbps on the go for laptop users, via a USB modem. It’ll use 3’s new ‘Turbo’ network that starts rolling out nationally from 4th September.
UK's 3 network adds Google Search and Maps to mobile portal
3 has announced that it’s done a deal with Google to put their search engine, plus Google Maps, onto the Planet 3 mobile portal from today.
Google Search will be offered as a choice alongside Yahoo Search, already on the portal.
Maps will be offered as a download, as well as being installed on the majority of new handsets able to run the application.
UK's 3 network gets improved Nokia N95 handset
3 has just announced that an updated Nokia N95 handset, version PR1.2, is now available on their network.
Sporting an improved battery life, GPS, and better Internet browsing stability, as well as full X-Series support, it’ll cost £49.99 on the £28 monthly X-Series tariff, or is free on £45+ monthly tariffs.
Live Earth – live on 3 mobile this weekend
This weekend’s Live Earth charity concert to save the dolphins or ozone layer or whatever, is being broadcast live on 3’s mobile network.
Better still, by watching the concert on your mobile you’ll be doing you bit to help eliminate rain forests…

SkypeOut IS coming to mobile phones… eventually
When UK mobile operator 3 launched its X-Series service earlier this year, the inclusion of Skype was one of the most exciting elements. Experienced Skypers quickly noticed that it was only the basic Skype service, and not the more advanced SkypeOut giving you cheap calls to landlines and mobile numbers. However, Skype’s Tony Saigh has confirmed that SkypeOut is still on the company’s roadmap for mobile.
