Today is International Delete Your MySpace Account Day – who's in?
Finally, a reason to log into MySpace! It appears that I’m not the only one who’s fed up with the constant spam friend requests, as today is the first International Delete Your MySpace Account Day.
Blogger Simon Owens came up with the initiative, cataloguing 10 reasons why he was going to delete his profile today. These include the spam friend requests, ‘error’ messages and pages, women being harassed by male users, the loud and irritating music…
Is your web site Hot or Not? New site lets you find out
Just when you thought there was no room for any more “Hot or Not” web sites, along comes one which lets you vote on how good a web site looks.
Yes, we know it’s all about the content, right? But, just as with most other things in life, some things look great, and some things look downright nasty.
So why not vote on them?
Target refuses to talk to blogger: not traditional enough
The US retail chain Target, described by the New York Times as “the ever-hip, contemporary retailer”, reportedly refused to talk about one of their advertising campaigns with a young blogger who found them offensive, because they were not part of the mainstream (traditional) media.
When Amy Jussel from ShapingYouth.org, called Target to complain about an ad which showed a woman splayed across a target pattern, she was met with the stock PR response, “Unfortunately we are unable to respond to your inquiry because Target does not participate with nontraditional media outlets.”
BBC TV content coming to MySpaceTV
A new partnership will see classic moments from the BBC’s television archives appearing on MySpaceTV, the social networking site’s online TV platform.

Dilettante gives classical music a Web 2.0 spin
Much of the hype around Music 2.0 focuses on rock, hip-hop and dance music over other genres. However, UK startup Dilettante aims to change that, providing a spangly Web 2.0 experience that (it hopes) will turn younger web surfers into fans of classical music.
Pownce emerges from beta to take on Twitter
Pownce has been the talk of the geekarati for a while now, on account of being the new venture of Digg’s Kevin Rose, with the obligatory invite-only beta to make initial users feel exclusive. With 150,000 of them now using the service, Pownce left private beta last night, so it’s now open to all.
Opinion: Social networks reach the parts other sites can't reach – yes, even sexual ones!
Jonathan Weinberg writes… According to MySpace, virtual friends are replacing real-life mates, with more people than ever using the Internet to socialise and find love. Well they would say that, wouldn’t they!
But interestingly, research by the social network has found they are also using the sites to “lose their virginity” with three per cent of under 24s questioned for the poll saying they’d paired up with a ‘friend’ for that purpose…
