80GB PS3 release brought forward to this Friday

sony-playstation-3.jpgExcellent news if you were thinking about buying a PS3. Awful news if you’ve just bought one. According to a number of online retailers, Sony are bringing out their 80GB PS3 on Friday, rather than a week Friday as was previously thought.

The new 80GB PS3 will cost the same as the old 40GB PS3 – £299. Many fans had been hoping for a price drop, but a Sony Computer Entertainment rep rubbished the idea, saying “It’s not going to happen”. Bringing the launch forward is more than likely a reaction to Microsoft’s new 60GB Xbox, launched last Friday. The Xbox 360 has been outselling the PS3 in Japan over the last week for a change.
