50 Cent is surprisingly OK with the file-sharing thing

50cent-file-sharing.jpg50 Cent kind of isn’t that bothered about file-sharing and the impact it’s having on record sales, as he realises the music industry needs to change – and that artists can make money in other ways than flogging them an album every year.

Heart of gold, that man (apart from when he used to sell drugs).

He said in his slightly odd drawl – “The concerts are crowded and the industry must understand that they have to manage all the 360 degrees around an artist. They have to maximize their income from concerts and merchandise. It is the only way they can get their marketing money back.”

Is it, to put words in his mouth, all about generating money from other ‘revenue streams’ than simply flogging CDs these days.

So if you’re a 50 Cent fan feel free to carry on Bittorrenting all his music – just expect his t-shirts and baseball caps to be slightly more expensive than the industry average, should you ever take your life into your hands by attending one of his concerts.
