Nokia shows off touchscreen 'Tube' mobile, their touted 'iPhone killer'

nokia-tube.jpg

It’s good of Nokia to join the hordes of mobile manufacturers vying to topple Apple from the Touchscreen throne, with news breaking today about their ‘Tube’ concept phone.

It was shown off at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference over in California, where the Vice President of Forum Nokia, Tom Libretto, claimed Apple’s five million sold units is a drop in the ocean compared to Nokia’s, as “we’ve done that since we’ve had dinner on Friday”. Forgetting, of course, they’re mostly entry-level PAYG models…

MDR-NC500D.jpg

Another product to add to the ‘world’s first’ category, Sony claims these MDR-NC500D headphones are the world’s first digital noise-cancelling pair.

With 99% of ambient noise cut out supposedly (although that’s based on ‘Sony’s measurement standards’ apparently), they use digital technology with Artificial Intelligence, with an internal processor adapting the level of cancellation dependent on the outside noise. The ‘AI Mode’ button lets you choose from three cancellation modes, alternatively press down and hold…

Radiohead launches social networking site for gossip about Thom's hair, Waste-Central

radiohead-3.jpg

They’ve already asked you to create music videos for their In Rainbows album, and given you the task of remixing their single ‘Nude’, now they’re demanding you waste even more of your time helping them own the internet, with their aptly-named new social networking site, Waste-Central.

The main attraction to the site is the gigapedia-type service so you can find the gig you’re going to, meet the other fans who’ve spent £42.50 on a ticket, and obviously arrange to meet up before or after the gig to talk about Thom Yorke’s hair…

Microsoft and Yahoo stayed up late all weekend on Messenger, still no decision made

big-fish-eating-small-fish.jpg

The weekend was not a quiet one for the oppressive Microsofties and underlingers Yahoo, with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer issuing Yahoo an ultimatum in an open letter to the board of directors, ranting “our goal in making such a generous offer was to create the basis for a speedy and ultimately friendly transaction. Despite this, the pace of the last two months has been anything but speedy.”

He’s given Yahoo three weeks to accept the offer, or Microsoft will usurp Yahoo’s board of directors, replacing them with new, more Microsoft-friendly officers….
