Liveblogging from Apple's music press conference Septemeber 2008

So ladies and gents, here I am in London, England, in a functional, if unspectacular, business centre that Apple has hired out for the day to bring us their conference and vision for the near future. As we’ve all expected, the focus of the event looks to be the music side of their business and I’m sure I’d be very excited by the “Let’s Rock” slide I can see on the screen at the front if Kevin Rose hadn’t broken the news about iTunes 8 last week.

It’s a rainy day outside and the hall is half full of journalist from all over Europe and half full of Apple’s guests who will doubtless whoop and applaud at every announcement. To my right is Shiny Shiny’s Susi Weaser complete with nasty cold and husky tones . Say hello, Susi. She says hi.

There’s a general hubbub, the lights have gone down and typing is going to get tricky without an illuminated keyboard. Here we go…

Steve Jobs is dead, claim Bloomberg

steve-jobs-grave.jpg

It’s not much of a secret that many newspapers and TV stations keep pre-prepared obituaries of famous people, so that they can be first on the news when it breaks and just hit “publish”, but if that obituary accidentally leaks early then it can be very embarrassing for all concerned. Exactly that happened today when financial wire service Bloomberg accidentally published their obituary of Steve Jobs…

Steve Jobs "I'm an arrogant **** but I'm not sick"

steve-jobs-illness-explained.jpg

Following Apple’s incredible share price drop caused by recent Steve Jobs health scares, it seems Apple is trying to reassure people that Steve’s A-OK and full of beans, vigour and, we might even suggest, spunk.

Originally, Apple put Steve’s visible weight loss down to a “common bug” – but the truth is, slowly, beginning to out. Thanks to Steve phoning a journalist and giving him the full facts.

“This is Steve Jobs. You think I’m an arrogant…

Fake Steve Jobs is dead – but you can buy the book for $25 if you're missing him already

fake-steve-jobs-blog-closes.jpg

It was the fake blog that spawned a thousand – or, at least, two we can think of – imitators, but Fake Steve Jobs has now sadly passed.

Outed as being the handiwork of writer Dan Lyons, who was the editor of business magazine Forbes, the site was a rather brutal picture of beloved Steve. It painted…

Apple reveals 'Steve Jobs Air'

The new streamlined Steve Jobs Air comes in the smart casual denin jeans and sleek dark top we’ve come to know and love, but now – thanks to a rigorous low-carb diet – Apple’s new Steve Jobs Air weighs in around 15 pounds lighter!

Pictured below – the original bulky Steve Jobs 1.0 (left) and the slimmer Steve Jobs Air:

Sadly, this means the new Steve Jobs Air is incompatible with previous Steve Jobs version 1.0 accessories…

Top 10 new Apple operating systems after OS X Snow Leopard

os-x-george-clooney.jpg

After Apple yesterday confirmed the release of their new operating system, OS X Snow Leopard, it occurred to us at TD that pretty soon Steve Jobs is going to run out of big cats to name his products after.

He’s gone through Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger and Leopard already and, with only Lion left, he’s going to have to move on to some different animals and eventually some other ideas altogether. So, knowing the Apple Master like we do, this is the Tech Digest Top 10 of what Apple will call their OSs next:

1.)OS X Amoeba – retro version harking back to the original Mac OSs

2.)OS X Badger – constantly double-checking with users for every single operation…

WWDC 2008: iPhone 2 announced by Steve Jobs – it has 3G internet, GPS, flush headphone jack…

3g-iphone-black-back.jpg

Steve Jobs just announced the news everyone has been craving since before the first iPhone was even announced – the second generation iPhone will have 3G internet connectivity. My ears hurt with the ringing of everyone clapping at the news at WWDC.

In addition to that major feature, the phone will contain “a flush headphone jack”, with “solid metal buttons, the same gorgeous 3.5″ display, and camera”.

The back of the iPhone is no longer silver, it’s black, and “thinner at the edges, full plastic back”.

In addition to the aforementioned hardware specs, it also features inbuilt GPS, and an extended battery life, of 300 hours on standby, 3G…
