ZuneFest: Microsoft 's 4GB/8GB Zune takes on the iPod Nano
Phew, at last some hard fact rather than mere rumour. Microsoft has unveiled various new Zune models and related services / accessories, so I’m going to deal with them one by one. Starting with the new 4GB and 8GB Flash-based Zunes.
They’re available in pink, green, black and red flavours, and will sell for $199.99 in the US. Think of them as a direct rival for the iPod Nano, complete with a whizzy Zune Pad touch-sensitive navigation button.

Adobe updates Flash Player 9 "Moviestar" to include H.264 video support
Adobe has announced that its popular Flash Player 9, codenamed “Moviestar”, is being updated to include the H.264 / MPEG4 standard video format. This, together with technologies including High Efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) audio support and hardware accelerated, multi-core enhanced full screen video playback, could lead the way to Flash Player being used for high definition content.
It could also have implications for how popular video sharing services such as YouTube and MySpace operate, although YouTube is already moving to the H.264 format used by Quicktime so that videos can be played back on the iPhone, which currently doesn’t have Flash support.

iPhone won't run Flash or Java: is it a complete Web experience?
Apple has already made it clear that the Safari browser built in to the iPhone won’t run the Flash plug-in. Now it’s also been noted that it won’t run Java applications, either.
Because of these two omissions, Mobile Business magazine has weighed in and claimed that the iPhone won’t run the full Web.
They claim that Flash and Java are “near essential” applications – and I’ll own up and say that I’ve said similar about Flash. I’m not a huge fan of Flash, because it does its best to slow down even the most modern PC’s CPU, but I recognise that it has become a standard for a number of web applications.
Java, too, is a pain. The only Java I like is the hot, steaming variety that comes from my coffee percolator each morning. The other Java is – well – hot and steaming might describe it, but it ain’t coffee.

Dell adds SanDisk flash drives to Latitude notebooks as hard drive alternative
Dell has announced that it will be offering its Latitude D420 ultra-mobile and D620 ATG semi-rugged notebook computers with SanDisk 1.8-inch 32GB solid state (Flash) drives instead of a hard drive.
Dell is committed to offering them across the next generation of its Latitude notebooks as they are more reliable, offer increased performance, and are quieter.
