While there are plenty of third party Facebook applications on the iPad, we’ve still yet to see an official run charge out of the Zuckerberg stable. And for a while back there, we thought we never would. The Big Z had branded Facebook “not mobile”, saying it didn’t need a dedicated app and that the browser version would suffice for tablet users.
But he seems to have all been smoke and mirrors, with the New York Times now reporting that work on an official Facebook app for iPad has been well underway for the bes tpart of a year. Groups and Chat in the official app in particular have been completely overhauled for the official tablet version, should the report be believed.
The news follows reports that Facebook are planning their own HTML 5 app store to rival Apple’s own App Store. Could the official Facebook app come as part of this rumoured “Project Spartan”?
