Chute eco-friendly smartphone by Michael Laut

Instead of the usual assortment of metal, glass and plastic, how would you like a smartphone made of bamboo? That’s what you would get if the Chute smartphone went into production.

It’s just a concept right now, courtesy of Michael Laut, but does make a good amount of sense. Bamboo is high sustainable, biodegradable (a good thing when it comes to high-turnover items like handsets) and light/stronger than plastic. Obviously there’s still the screen to worry about, but it is a step in the right direciton.

Will we see one from the likes of Nokia, Sony Ericsson et al very soon? Not while you the consumer continue to demand a glossy black or shiny metal finish on your pride and joy.
