Skype problems continue with patchy service

skype-screen.pngYesterday’s Skype problems appear to have been only partially resolved, according to the company.

They reported that some users in Asia and parts of Europe were able to connect and use the phone service today, but not all.

A moderately optimistic notice posted on their Heartbeat blog said, “even though it is too early to call out anything definite yet we are now seeing signs of improvement in our sign-on performance.”

Shape Services offers Skype on the iPhone

The first bills are trickling through for iPhone customers, and judging by reports – heck, videos too – they’re long to say the least, as users are calling all and sundry, and even developing a closer relationship to their grans all of a sudden.

The news that Shape Services have released a Skype service for the Apple phone will be music to iPhone users’ ears. It’s web-based so navigates the iPhone’s third-party app unfriendliness perfectly, and allows for IM chat, Skype to Skype calls, and even calls to regular phones if you’ve upgraded to a SkypeOut account…

They’re not a new thing – we’ve been popping silly expressions and animations in MSN Messenger for ages. They’re probably not even new to Skype. But the ability to moon a business contact while in a serious VoIP teleconference is our hot new thing this week nonetheless.

SkypeOut IS coming to mobile phones… eventually

skype-xseries.jpgWhen UK mobile operator 3 launched its X-Series service earlier this year, the inclusion of Skype was one of the most exciting elements. Experienced Skypers quickly noticed that it was only the basic Skype service, and not the more advanced SkypeOut giving you cheap calls to landlines and mobile numbers. However, Skype’s Tony Saigh has confirmed that SkypeOut is still on the company’s roadmap for mobile.
