Is this a leaked photo of the touch-screen BlackBerry Thunder? Erm…
The internet saw a fan’s mock-up of the new touch-screen BlackBerry Thunder only a few weeks ago, but already we have the first leaked photo rumoured to be ‘the real deal’.
Retailer Horizon Wireless is apparently taking pre-orders for the Thunder, with this photo accompanying the sale-page which looks like it’s received a heavy-hand of the ol’ blur function in Photoshop.
If you squint your eyes hard enough, you can just about make out…it’s black. Yep, that’s it for now. Major colour leak! Major colour leak!…
Comparison of RIM's BlackBerry Pearl 8110, Curve 8310 and Bold 9000 smartphones
The BlackBerry 9000 was officially announced by Research In Motion this morning, and within minutes I was on the phone to my mobile contract provider, arranging the return of the Pearl 8110 I’d just ordered. Even though the 9000 won’t be out until Summer, it’s still worth waiting for, in my opinion.
Or is it? Do you prefer the 45g-bar-of-chocolate-size of the Pearl 8110, or the BlackBerry Maps featured in the Curve 8310? Let’s take a look below the jump at the key features of the three feathers RIM has in its cap…
RIM gets scared by oncoming 3G iPhone, potentially delays 3G BlackBerry 8900
BlackBerry…delaying the launch of their 3G 8900 handset…because of the imminent arrival of the 3G HSDPA iPhone? Sounds strange, but that’s what the ‘sources’ have told Fortune magazine.
Of course, the official reason behind the possible delay is due to ‘call quality concerns’, but it does seem fairly obvious that pushing the launch back from June to August will help RIM determine how much of a threat the 3G iPhone will be, and also avoid having the same launch date as the Apple handset. After all, no-one likes discovering at a party they’re wearing the same outfit as their worst enemy….
RIM patent for vaguely different slider phone, new BlackBerries coming?
I get a bit cheesed off with the number of technology patents being filed, with seemingly small variations on a similar theme.
Take the latest from Research In Motion, makers of the BlackBerry, which details a “Hybrid Portrait-Landscape Handheld Device With Trackball Navigation and Qwerty Hideaway Keyboard”.
Yes, indeed, we’ve all seen devices with keyboards that slide out from under the phone, but apparently this one is different because it’s got a trackball on it.
Woop!
Shiny Video Review: RIM's BlackBerry Pearl 8110
Haven’t caught wind of the new 8110 Pearl handset from BlackBerry? Well, lucky for you, our very own Katie Lee has put together a short review of the Blue Slate mobile, and pitted it against the original Pearl, which she’s already very fond of.
She also touches on the new price plans from T-Mobile, just recently announced, which include instant email for only £5 a month…
RIM BlackBerry sues Motorola over patent infringement, Motorola countersues over…patent infringement
RIM’s throwing the courtcase Motorola’s way now, after exhausting the legal battle with LG over the similarity of their model names to its own ‘BlackBerry’ branding.
But, it turns out that Motorola has turned the tables on RIM and is counter-suing them. Ouch. RIM claims Motorola is copying their…
RIM planning to take on iPhone with touchscreen BlackBerry
Handsets like the Curve and Pearl have ensured that Research In Motion’s BlackBerry isn’t just seen as a corporate email device any more. But it seems RIM has ambitions to push even more into the consumer space, by launching a touchscreen BlackBerry to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone.
RIM sues LG over their phone names being too close to the BlackBerry name
Don’t count on Research In Motion launching any new BlackBerry smartphones over the next few months – they’re far too busy suing LG Electronics for trivial matters concerning copyright brand names.
It appears RIM has nothing better to do than accuse LG of taking inspiration from their ‘BlackBerry’ brand…
Opinion: Corporate cash is never a bad thing!
So the boss emails me this morning and he says: “Can you do a post on either Microsoft buying into Facebook or Blackberries becoming more of an entertainment device?” ‘Mmm’ I thought, why don’t I do both! So here it is, cunningly combined by way of a tenuous techno link.
I can’t lie, I’m possibly one of the most corporate people you’ll meet. I love big business, capitalism and all the positives that come from it. And I’m overjoyed at Bill Gates grabbing a slice of my beloved Facebook. His firm has invested $240m in the social network site and while it’s less than a two per cent stake, there’s no doubt the company will start to exert some of its muscle amid the Poking and Fun Walls…
