Deafness charity finds 67% of you lot are listening to music TOO LOUDLY


A survey conducted by the Royal National Institute for Deaf People discovered that two-thirds of us are listening to MP3 players at dangerously loud volume levels that could break our earholes for good.

The RNID accosted 246 people in the streets of Edinburgh and plugged listening gadgets into the headphone sockets of their MP3 players, testing the volume output levels. The level considered safe for blasting music…

Swedish kid collapses after 24-hour WoW marathon


Fuelling further tabloid hysteria about the dangers of online gaming comes a story straight outta’ Laholm in western Sweden. Some poor 15-year-old kid was enjoying the new WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, with some friends, but 24 hours into their mammoth gaming session, he collapsed and suffered what seems to have been an epileptic fit.

Doctors told the father that his son’s bodily systems had been disrupted by a combination of sleep deprivation, lack of food, and the prolonged period of concentration playing the game. He’s expected to make a full recovery, but seriously – this is just an idiot kid. The fault isn’t in the game, it’s in the parents who didn’t tell him to stop or at least get him to eat some food and have a nap.

Facebook to limit how many invitations users get. No more spam?

facebook_logo.jpgFacebook is changing the way that application invites are handled, meaning that the user experience should be improved from “not another @&£?$#! invite” to… well, a bit more peace and quiet.

They’ve already changed the way notifications are sent out, so that they vary based upon how “spammed” users are feeling.

Instead of the fixed limit of 20 invitations per user per day, the new dynamic limits will be based upon a user’s historical invitation acceptance rate, whether an application forces users to invite friends (ARGH!), and some additional undisclosed factors which “reflect the affinity users show for the application as a whole”. Whatever they may be.
