Dell to offer Inspiron 1525 notebook with Blu-ray drive

Susi has already reviewed the new Inspiron 1525, which currently is high definition-enabled in as much as it has an HDMI port, but no standard high definition drive.

However, US sites are reporting that Dell is offering a Blu-ray drive as part of the customisation process, so now you can get HD content onto the machine, for viewing on the 15.4-inch glossy screen or output via that HDMI port…

Dell and Microsoft launch (PRODUCT) RED branded products

dell_product_red_laptop.jpgDell and Microsoft have announced that they’ve partnered and joined the (PRODUCT) RED initiative which sees companies donating a portion of the sale price of products to the Global Fund.

Dell products in the scheme include the XPS M1330 (PRODUCT) RED laptop — featuring high-definition 13.3-inch display, full-sized keyboard, built-in Wi-Fi and optional mobile broadband wireless — and the XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED — a 15.4-inch laptop loaded with features like built-in webcam and fingerprint reader. The laptops feature vibrant red colouring and accents.

Dell intros Inspiron 1525 15.4-inch notebook: thinner, smaller, lighter, with new designs

Dell has announced the launch of its new Inspiron 1525 notebook computers, boasting they’re smaller (by 25%), slimmer, and lighter (by 250g) than the previous generation.

The notebook boasts a 15.4-inch display, and can be customised with “four new cool patterns” for the back of the display — Blossom, Chill, Commotion and Street.

Features include optional wireless and mobile broadband, Dell MediaDirect technology for one-touch instant access to music, photos and videos, and select Microsoft Office programmes like Calendar and Contacts, without turning on the notebook, optional webcam, and ExpressCard Travel Remote.

Oh gawd. Just when you think that everyone’s agreed on a set of connectors, you find they’ve been off agreeing something new behind your back. I’ve only just noticed that most PC monitors are connected using DVI now and sort of expected that might shift to HDMI once Blu-ray and HD DVD started appearing on more PCs. Not so apparently. DisplayPort is the future now and has been endorsed by Video Electronics Standards Association as the next standard of digital display interface for broad adoption in PCs, monitors, and projectors.
