Sony's Ericsson's super-garish S001 8megapixel Cyber-shot mobile – with OLED screen

Turn your iPhone into a scanner
When’s the last time you used a scanner?
For me, the answer’s probably “years ago”. It’s something that’s completely exited my life, for some reason. Probably because I just don’t seem to ever get stuff on paper any more. Not stuff that needs to be on my PC, anyway.
Well, an Industrial Design student at the University of Cincinnati, Kyle A Koch, has come up with a big cardboard construct that can be used to scan stuff in using your iPhone. You’ll also need some decent light, and the picture quality won’t even approach ‘medium’, but hey – you never know when it could come in handy.

CES 2009: Casio compacts – Exilim EX-Z400, EX-Z270, EX-S12, EX-S5, EX-FS10 and EX-FC100
Gosh, what a long list of product names. No time for a long, gratuituous intro then, let’s jump straight into specs.
The big hitters are the EX-FS10 and EX-FC100. The former has a 9.1-megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom. It’s 16.3mm thin, and has a 2.5″ LCD display. The latter is also 9.1 megapixel, and expands to a 5x zoom and 2.7″ touchscreen. It’s also got CMOS anti-shake.
Impressively, though, they can both capture at amazingly high speeds – 30 shots-per-second 6-megapixel still images, and movies at up to 1,000fps. That speed is going to good use, too – you can set it to take a burst, and automatically pick the least blurred, smiliest, eyes-open photo, or you can pick the best one yourself. It’ll also do 720p HD video. $350 (£231) for the EX-FS10, and $400 (£264) for the EX-FC100, both out in March in the US.
Kodak unveils Z980 Megazoom and Zx1 mini-camcorder
Okay, ladies and gentlemen. Line up, please. Kids at the front. We’re going to take a look at a couple of new products that Kodak has dropped on us. On your left, you’ve got the Z980 entry-level point-and-shoot, and on your right is the Zx1 weatherproof mini camcorder. Which shall we look at first? The Z980? Okay.
The Z980 is a fairly basic point-and-shoot, with a few notable exceptions. First, you’ve got a generous 24X zoom, which should let you zero in from a safe distance on that girl down the road who you’ve got a crush on, but who just doesn’t seem to notice your existence.

Check out the video above for Lucy’s thought’s on Samsung’s lovely 8-megapixel ‘Pixon’ cameraphone. It’s got a touchscreen, autofocus, ASR and WDR, and 16x zoom, along with an awesome slow-motion video mode. It’s almost like it’s a camera first and a phone second!

SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: E-matic 4GB MP3 Player/Camera
In the video above, Zara takes a look at a camera/MP3 player hybrid device. It’s a bit of a strange combination, especially as there’s no mobile phone in there anywhere, but considering the specs of the little thing, it’s remarkably cheap for what you’re getting.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available in the UK yet. Ah well – next Christmas perhaps.

The D3X – Nikon unveils a 24.5 megapixel beast
Here’s the whopping D3X, straight outta Nikon’s ‘Pro’ magazine. The spec sheet surfaced over the weekend, which includes a 24.5 megapixel sensor, and full-resolution shooting at five frames per second – necessitating a newly updated ‘EXPEED’ image processing system to keep pace.
