Relive 2003 with the SimCity Box, containing five games

sim-city-2000-ea.jpg

If it weren’t for the assorted Sims games, my formative years would’ve been very lonely indeed. That’s why I’m so excited at the news that EA has announced the SimCity Box.

Containing five games from the SimCity range, there’s SimCity Societies, SimCity Societies Destinations, SimCity 4, SimCity 4 Rush House and The Sims Carnival SnapCity, which I must admit I’ve never actually heard of. A steal at $39.99, you’re saving $60 by buying them bundled together, and perhaps it’ll help tide you over until Sims 3 is released next…

Wired forgets core readership, publishes lame stereotype 'Geekster Handbook' feature

wired-geek.jpg

Brought to my attention by Gizmodo, I am simply appalled by this feature Wired has published not just online, but in their latest issue, too. As a longtime fan of Wired magazine, reading it for over four years now, I’m shocked at how they could misrepresent and alienate their core readership in a blatant attempt at linkbaiting.

Is anyone else getting fed up with how the mainstream public has opened their arms to the big ‘G’ word, and any old internet-user with a Mac or a penchant for shopping at Threadless describes themselves as one? Do you think any of the American Apparel models stereotypes in the picture above, courtesy of Wired, got ostracised in school for spending every lunchtime in the library, reading X-Files books, and preferred racing home to play PC games instead of partaking in after-school basketball lessons? Doubt it…

sennheiser-earbuds-1.jpg

Sennheiser has cottoned onto the HD DVD cash-back trade-in program offered in several US (and Swiss) retailers, and is now offering up to $25 in hard cold cash when you trade in your ear-wax coated old ones.

When trading in any pair of earbuds or headphones, a $5 refund is offered when you purchase entry-level earbuds, $10 on sport earbuds, $15 for in-ears, and $25 for noise-cancelling models. All you need to do reportedly…

Pre-internet technology at its finest: ThinkGeek's paper emails

paper-email.jpg

Do you remember the days before email? I personally used carrier pigeons, and then later upgraded to a small man on a penny farthing, what did form of communication did you employ?

ThinkGeek is offering some pre-internet technology, called ‘paper email’. It’s a funny thing, you actually write emails with something called a biro using your hand – can you imagine! It might take me a few days to learn the OS for that system.

It’s $3.99 for 50 paper emails, which is an awful lot – heck, I only pay £10 a month for my broadband, and send thousands of emails for that…

You too can have thighs like this if you use an ASUS Eee PC…

eee-pc-girl.jpg

If this photo, above, isn’t the most compelling argument for purchasing an ASUS Eee PC notebook, then I don’t know what is.

Look! Using the Eee turns one thigh into two! You’ll magically find overnight that your left thigh will have a circumference the size of a breadstick. Just £219.95, and you don’t even have to do any leg presses down at the gym!

The aspirational thinsperation photo is available at I4U News in a downloadable 800 x 480 wallpaper….

Wiimote-controlled KUKA robot can play tennis and stab you if you ace it

Able to lift 1,000kg and with a reach of 3.2m, you could say the KUKA robotic arm is being put to waste when wielding a tennis racquet or sword for an intense Wii session. In the video above, you can see a couple of chaps controlling the KUKA with a Wiimote, which has been hacked with some light pattern recognition so it’d duplicate their arm swings.

The instructions on how to create a Wiimote controlled KUKA are over on their site, but first you’ll need to cough up a fair bit – here’s a second-hand one on eBay for $10k…

PS3 firmware upgrade 2.3 will give DTS-HD Master Audio support, hurrah!

ps3-dts.jpg

It’s official – the PS3 is now the best Blu-ray player you could throw your money at, and one of the cheapest too, at £299.99.

Sony has just announced the PS3 now has DTS-HD Master Audio support, which is one of the highest resolution audio formats for films, with Dolby TrueHD being the only other contender. Support for that format, and DTS-HD High Resolution, will become available in the latest firmware upgrade, version 2.3, due out on April the 15th.

Most new Blu-ray players can output DTS-HD MA, however only a small amount of AV receivers can actually decode it. The popular (amongst audiophiles) format gives the user a 7.1 audio channel, which is as close as you’ll get to the original studio master. The update will output all 7.1 channels via HDMI,…

Shiny Video Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for the Nintendo Wii

Simon’s taken out a good few hours of his life to bring you a video review on Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for the Nintendo Wii. He did it for you. He probably would’ve preferred doing the dishes or cleaning the mud off his bike, but no, he’s an unselfish type of chap who thinks nothing of sitting down for an eight-hour session playing the Wii, just for you. You should thank him, really…
