Could the iPhone 6 phablet run in landscape mode?

The iPhone 6 is rumoured to come in two sizes: 4.6″ and a phablet-inducing 5.5″… but what to do with all of that potential screen real estate on the larger version? One developer has mocked up how the interface could be improved by a landscape mode.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith modified Apple’s app-development software to render the following images – showing a “dual pane” approach could be taken to make the most of the space – as you can see in the following screenshots (by way of 9to5Mac):

The effect of this would be to make the iPhone 6’s larger edition even more like a miniature iPad – but could it add a burden to developers who already have to develop for a number of different screen sizes?
