alphass.jpgAmazon have whittled down their list of 14 original TV pilots to the final five shows that will be made into full series, to be shown exclusively through Lovefilm Instant streaming.

Political comedy Alpha House (staring John Goodman) has made the cut, along with geeky comedy Betas, while kids get three new shows to look forward to: Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf.

“We are thrilled at the enthusiastic customer response to our first original pilots,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios.

“We built Amazon Studios so that customers could help decide which stories would make the very best movies and TV shows. It’s exciting to see the process in motion, doing exactly what we set out to do. The success of this first set of pilots has given us the push to try this approach with even more shows–this is just the beginning.”

The move comes hot on the hells of rival Netflix’s entry into the original content sphere, which has seen great success with the launch of House of Cards and a brand new series of Arrested Development, which hit the service over the weekend.

No launch date has been given for the Amazon shows yet, though it’s expected that the kid’s shows will be ready first.
