_bmUploads_2013-03-25_336_RuneScape 3.jpgRuneScape, the world’s most popular free massively multiplayer online adventure game, which has played host to some 220 million players since launching in 2001, is to get a major new update this summer in the form of RuneScape 3 according to the development team at Jagex.

One of the most significant updates to the browser-based MMO in its history, RuneScape 3 will offer a “massive leap forward in technology”, employing an all new HTML5 engine, imrpoved graphics, longer draw distances, new audio and revised design features, alongside a host of new questing content.

“RuneScape 3 is a massive update to RuneScape building on 12 years of content to make improvements on all fronts,” said Phill Masell, the game’s Executive Producer. “

RuneScape 3 is going to run faster, look better and feel so much more immersive.”

The update will also add significant advances in the game universe’s lore, according to Runescape’s Creative Director Mark Ogilvie:

“RuneScape 3 marks a significant moment in RuneScape’s history as the world enters the 6th Age. All our recent content updates have been building up to this point, massive change is coming, and our players will be able to shape the game with the choices they make. Every single player will have the ability to shape the world.”

Keep an eye out for the game update rolling out in the next few weeks. Until then, feast your eyes on the trailer below:
