smart-glass-action.jpgHere’s some welcome news for Android handset owning Xbox 360 gamers. Though previously not expected until early next year, Microsoft have rolled out the Android version of their Xbox 360 second-screen SmartGlass application.

Landing on Friday for Windows RT users, it lets Xbox 360 owners use their Android device to control new dashboard features such as Internet Explorer, as well as acting as a remote, a software keyboard and offering second-screen enhancements to select games such as Forza Horizon.

In a surprising move, the early Android launch for the service puts Google’s OS one step ahead of even Microsoft’s own Windows Phone 8 operating system, which won’t launch with the feature until early next month.

Users of Apple’s iOS platform will still have to wait until early in the new year though it seems, no doubt due to Apple’s draconian App Store regulations.
