Nintendo has faced its fair share of controversy this E3, having many people argue that they are ignoring their core community. However, yesterday Nintendo debuted a game which appeals to both core gamer and casual gamer alike, The New Super Mario Bros. 2, which will be released for the 3DS on August 19th.

The loveable Italian plumber returns to the side scrolling New Super Mario Bros world, which has been promised to be “all about gold”. During the press conference at E3 we got to see a video demonstration of the world “all about gold” where we saw Mario actually turn into gold. This golden power flower, power up will turn almost anything Mario touches into gold. There was also talk of a new mode called “coin rush mode, where previously completed levels, which will only be changed slightly in this mode, will be added to the coin rush mode. In this new mode you will literally have to collect every single coin in the level with only 1 life. This addition will also utilise the 3DS Street Pass ability. We also got to see the return of Raccoon suite Mario dons in Super Mario 3 . As well as all these great new features, New Super Mario Bros. 2 will also be the first hand held Mario game which allows cooperative play all the way through, over a local wireless network.

One thing we definitely know about New Super Mario Bros. 2 is that it’s going to turn you into a coin grabbing maniac.
