audiosurf.jpgThe incredible, awesome, Audiosurf has just managed itself a 75% price cut, and can now be bought for the staggeringly low price of US$2.50. That’s £1.60. Seriously – at that price you need this game in your life. It’s one of the best PC games this year.

It’s sort-of a cross between Tetris, Guitar Hero, iTunes and crack. It’s a musical puzzle game, but that sounds way more boring than it actually is. You load in any MP3 you like, and from the waveform of the song, it generates a course which you race along picking up and matching coloured blocks. The fast, loud bits of the song are downhill, the slow, quieter bits are uphill. I’ve embedded a video of the gameplay over the jump, to help you get it.

Best of all, when you finish a song, it’ll upload your score to the internet and compare it with the rest of the world. Obviously, certain songs are more popular than others, and the ease at which you top the chart depends on how many other people have played the song. I’m still top of Chas ‘n’ Dave’s “The Sideboard Song”.

Once someone knocks you off the top of the chart, the game sends you an email telling you that you’ve been ‘dethroned’. It’s very difficult to resist the urge to log right back in at that moment and give it another shot to knock off whoever had the nerve to challenge you.

At £1.60, this is one of the best-value games you’ll ever come across. It’s given me hours and hours of pleasure, and is one of the best games I’ve played this year. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it.
