Asus officially announces touchscreen Eee PC – shipping in weeks

Laptops / Notebooks

assus_eeepc_2.jpgThe budget laptop market is suddenly getting more competitive – which means it is time for Asus to upgrade the Eee PC. And it has with a touchscreen.

Yes, the rumoured upgrade has been made official, with Kevin Lin (vice president of Asus sales) confirming that, a shipping date of around May/June and a price in the US of $500 (around £260 here if that’s consistent). Still unconfirmed is the presence of GPS, a memory boost from 512MB to 1GB and storage to a maximum of 12GB. All are expected when it ships.

Asus aims to ship up to five million Eee PCs in 2008. And who can blame them?
