Never mind Microsoft, it seems like Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is in pole position to buy Yahoo.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the two companies are in talks, with News Corporation’s web interests (including MySpace) merging with Yahoo – and Yahoo giving News Corp 20 per cent of its shares in return. Microsoft is offering to buy Yahoo for $40bn, a figure rejected by Yahoo, which claims it is “a faster-moving, better-organized, more nimble company than it was just a few months ago” and as such, under-valued by Microsoft.

It’s a story that is sure to rumble on and on…
