Sony unveils 34 new VAIO notebook PCs across six series

sony_vaio_type_c_notebook_pcs.jpgSony has gone overboard with its latest selection of VAIO notebook PCs, offering 34 choices across six different series.

Briefly, these are series C, F, R, S, T, and “TV PC”, though as these are initially destined for the Japanese market, I’m gleaning their specifications from a rough translation of the Japanese press release.

The VAIO Series C (pictured) seems to be as much about colour as it is about features, with notebook casing coming in a variety of lush shades including indigo blue, luxury pink, pure white, and an untranslatable shade of red.

It seems as if the PC can play back audio and video without having to be fully booted – it certainly has dedicated buttons for multimedia. It also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam, a 14.1-inch widescreen LCD, and is just 2.1cm thick.

The VAIO Series F / FZ features an optical drive able to read high definition Blu-ray discs as well as read and burn standard DVDs and CDs. It features a Core 2 Duo processor and NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT GPU, and 15.4-inch widescreen LCD.

The VAIO Series S features Core 2 Duo processor, 13.3-inch widescreen display, DVD burner, and fingerprint recognition.

The VAIO Series T has similar features to the Series S, but with a smaller 11.1-inch widescreen LCD.

The VAIO Series R models seem to be the most powerful of the bunch, having either Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Duo processors, up to 24-inch widescreen LCD, 2GB of RAM, and Blu-ray drive. They also seem to come with additional Adobe software including Photoshop.

Finally, we covered Sony’s new TV/PC models last week.

More information can be found on the Sony Japan web site. They’re due to ship in Japan from 8th September.
