Today’s rumour du jour is that Microsoft could be planning to add support for Android apps on Windows Phone – in a bid to boost the number of apps available.

According to Neowin Microsoft might be investigating possible emulation technologies in a bid to shortcut its platform’s chicken-and-egg problem, of not having enough apps to attract enough users to make it an attractive platform.

This wouldn’t be entirely crazy – Blackberry has done something similar with some of its devices, enabling access to the Amazon Android app store for the same purpose.

So technically it may not be too tricky. What might be difficult for Microsoft is the need to swallow its pride and admit it just can’t do mobile on its own.

We’ll keep you posted.
