Unbelievably, “Yo” has become a genuinely useful service

Apps, iPhone apps

Remember Yo – the messaging app that lets you only send the word “Yo” to your contacts? Astonishingly, the company was not a one-note joke, got some serious investment and has now rolled out the “Yo Store” for notifications from a wide range of places.

The company has announced the Yo Store, where users can subscribe to notifications from places like Buzzfeed and the NBA. Then, when something newsworthy happens, you’ll receive a Yo containing a link to read more.

Cleverly, the back end of the store is relatively open – so that content providers can go in and provide their own Yos to users with relative ease, meaning you may never need miss a picture of Lil Bub the cat again.
