Mario Kart 8 gets Zelda & F-Zero DLC; Majora’s Mask coming to 3DS

Nintendo has announced details on the first downloadable content pack for Mario Kart 8 – it seems the series is set to become essentially the racing equivalent of Smash Bros.

As you can see in the video above, the pack introduces three new characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach (hmm) and Link – as well as new tracks in the form of Hyrule (from the Zelda series) and Mute City (from F-Zero).

The move marks a slight departure for the Mario Kart series, which has previously been all about the Mushroom Kingdom. Here’s hoping Nintendo broaden it out even more.

The DLC launches a week today – on the 13th November.

The company has also announced that Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask will be coming to 3DS. The much-loved N64 classic sees Link battling against time to stop the moon crashing into earth – and follows the 3DS release of Ocarina of Time when the handheld was first released.
