Amazon Prime Music launches in the States

The rumours were true! Amazon has just launched its Spotify-style music service in the United States, as part of Amazon Prime.

The service is bundled in with the Prime offering – so is paid for as part of the flat fee that also gets users access to Amazon Instant Video, the Kindle library and free one-day deliveries. It’s a nice value-add – simultaneously making Prime more attractive and making Spotify need to change its underpants.

As expected, the only major difference with the likes of Spotify is that it only contains tracks older than six months – presumably because Amazon would still like to sell you individual MP3s through Amazon MP3.

At the moment the service is only available in the US – we’ll let you know when it comes over to the UK.
