Sharp’s Galapogos tablets have had their worldwide release dates canned prior to the tablet leaving store shelves in Japan.
The expensive Android slates have been a Japanese exclusive since first appearing in stores there towards the back end of last year, and the company have now confirmed that their release will remain limited to the land of the rising sun until finally closing up shop on September 30th.
It’s not as though there aren’t a gazillion other Android tablets already up for grabs, but the Galapogos devices did have a few nifty tricks up their sleeves. Available in a variety of sizes (5.5 inches, 10.8 inches and a soon-to-be-released 7 incher) they boasted superb screen resolutions of 1366 x 800 for the bigger slate and 1024 x 600 for the 5.5 inch device.
The whole tablet was based around cloud-services too, making them much closer to e-reader devices than app-heavy iPad clones.
It now appears only the 7 inch version will remain on sale in Japan.
