apple_tablet.jpgAccording to an anonymous tip off to the Wall Street Journal, Apple will launch their long-rumoured Tablet on January 27th, with the device hitting stores in March.

According to the tipster, the event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center For The Arts in San Francisco, last used by Apple for Steve Jobs’ public return at the launch of the iPod Nano last September. Apple booked the venue back in December, igniting rumours even then that this could be the date and venue for the Tablet launch.

The tipster also let slip some details on the device itself, though revealing little that even the most casual of Apple fans couldn’t have surmised for themselves. The Tablet (rumoured to be named the iSlate) will have a 10 to 11 inch colour touchscreen and will be a “…multimedia device that will let people watch movies and television shows, play games, surf the internet and read electronic books and newspapers.”

The tipster also revealed that new software development tools for the Tablet will also be displayed, which goes someway to explaining the March shipping date, giving developers time to create and convert apps for the device.

It’s looking good then that the Tablet may finally be unveiled fairly soon. But keep in mind there are other Apple innovations in the pipeline; could video streaming or a cloud-based iTunes be the real launch at the Yerba Buena Center?
