The most desirable features of a mobile phone for “the silver generation” are a super loud hands free speakerphone, oversized display and buttons, a flashlight, compatibility with a hearing aid, and one-touch dialling of an ICE or emergency SMS.

The Emporia Life Plus is a slider phone featuring aluminium outer casing, has a standby time of 250 hours, and weighs in at 138g (that’s under five ounces, don’t you know). Forget any fancy features that the youngsters want, this is strictly for phoning and texting.

It’s free with any contract, or the handset costs £144.67 on PAYG.

  • will be happy to be proved wrong with this one…. but having done survival training during my Army days, I have to admit to a raised eyebrow with this as well.

  • I recently purchased an Emporia life+ mobile phone, which I am very pleased with, however, unfortunately I have great difficulty turning it off.(I have arthritis in hands) I can find how to turn it on in the manual but no mention of how to turn if off !! I have tried repeatedly without success using a blunt pencil so now I have to leave it on all night which it now naturally requires charging more often. Can you please advise if these is a secret way of turning it off !!!

    • Hello Mr Bingham,

Although I don’t own this phone, I did try to find a manual for it online. I could only find instructions for the Emporia, not the Emporia Plus, but it does say that you need to hold the power button down continuously for 3 seconds in order to turn the phone on or off. If that doesn’t work on the Emporia Life+ then you may have to contact the company to find out how to do it.
