New Nokia patent looks like a Sidekick

Surely the idea behind patents is that you’ve got an idea that nobody else has done before? Maybe I’m too idealistic. Anyway, Nokia has just filed a patent in the US for a mobile device with a flip-out keyboard.

Check the pics: look familiar? It’s a lot like the Sidekick, which is popular in the US (if not here in the UK), and has a very similar format. The new inclusion is the handly bit on the side, which you turn to make the keyboard flip out.

Anyway, if Nokia does turn this patent into a messaging device, it should be well worth a look – even if it isn’t the most original phone in the world. I’d like to see Nokia use the concept in an N-Gage-friendly games phone…
