Sketchcasting: It's like Pictionary for bloggers

Share

We’ve had podcasting, and webcasting, and (to extreme) lifecasting, but for those gifted types who are both artistic and can draw live using computer hardware, there’s now sketchcasting.

Sketchcasting is a way for people to embed videos of themselves drawing and narrating. It can be used to set up tutorials, or just for doodles.

Below is an introductory video created by one of the creators of Sketchcast.com, a site offering free video creation.

It looks fairly impressive, and the concept is great. Unfortunately, if you’re not great at drawing with a mouse, or even a tablet pen, it’s quite tough to get right, particularly if you’re talking at the same time.

I’ve always struggled with drawing on a computer (I’m not that great on paper, either). The following pathetic video proves that (it’s s-l-o-w — sorry):

Barely worth watching, eh? I’ve spared you the voiceover.

Drawing tools are basic, and are very much styled on the whiteboard model. You can draw in different colours, use a large eraser, or add text. That’s it.

With a lot more practice, it could turn into a useful tool for occasions when the written word doesn’t cut it. What do you think?
