MP3 players

allofmp3.jpgBad news for those of you who’ve been happily paying pennies for MP3 tracks on Russian site Allofmp3.

According to digital music research company Music Ally, the site may be bought by “an influential and wealthy Russian businessman”, who has been in talks with record labels and music publishers about turning Allofmp3 into a properly-licensed downloads service.

On the one hand, this may mean prices rise on the site for us Westerners – no more buying The Beatles’ ‘Love’ album for $3.57, for example. But it’s unclear whether a change of ownership would stop Allofmp3 from any legal action from the music industry, especially if the major labels don’t sign up.
